Vodavi Introduces Voice Over IP Gateway To Help Users Cut Long Distance Charges
Scottsdale, AZ - (February 25, 1999) - Vodavi Technology, Inc., (Nasdaq:VTEK), today announced the addition of toll-quality Voice Over IP (VoIP) capability for users of its STARPLUS® Triad and infinite® digital key telephone systems. Discovery IP™, an Internet Telephony gateway, supports voice/fax applications over the Internet or an Intranet. Businesses and call centers can now use the data network to accommodate data as well as voice requirements for both intra- and inter-office voice traffic. Users can quickly realize huge cost-savings between offices while achieving toll-quality voice communications. Discovery IP will be unveiled at Booth #2315 at the Computer Telephony Expo on March 2-4, 1999 in Los Angeles, CA.
"Clearly, the movement towards IP telephony is driving significant changes in the way businesses are addressing their communications needs," says Greg Roeper, President and COO of Vodavi Technology, Inc. "The introduction of Discovery IP is an important first step in Vodavi's strategy to leverage new technology and applications to bring affordable, integrated business communications solutions to small and medium-sized businesses through the integration of quality voice and data technologies. Using Discovery IP, businesses can now achieve higher efficiency from their data network while cutting their overall communications costs "
How It Works?
Vodavi's Discovery IP gateway is an affordable, easy to install and maintain Internet Telephony device that eliminates the need for duplicate voice and data networks by packetizing voice transmission over both public Internet and private Intranet networks. It is ideal for businesses with geographically dispersed workgroups that want to save money on long-distance intra-office voice and fax communications. There's no need for additional network hardware or new phones lines to get started so customers can immediately bypass traditional long distance phone services to begin saving. Depending on specific business requirements, Discovery IP is available in either a 2, 4 or 8 port configuration.
Discovery IP is a plug-and-play self-contained programmable platform consisting of a telephone line interface board, a Voice Compression card and a LAN interface. It combines toll-quality voice compression by utilizing the G.723.1 standard; G.711 and G.729a voice compression are also available as options. IP fax functionality is T.38 compliant and offers automatic fax detection to route faxes to specific fax machines. Discovery IP easily supports direct connection to existing phones, key systems, PBX extensions or PBX trunks with FXO and FXS connections. The Discovery IP product also allows for remote configuration and management via an SNMP agent or HP OpenView-based network management system.
Optional modules available on the Discovery IP gateway include sophisticated billing/authentication features along with a gatekeeper function to link multiple H.323 systems together. Businesses can now report on many robust management capabilities such as voice quality statistics, individual/departmental call tracking and mapping.
Pricing and Availability
Discovery IP will begin shipping in June 1999 through authorized STARPLUS Triad and infinite dealers. Suggested end user price for Discovery IP will range from $5,000 to $12,000, depending on configuration.
