AltiGen Announces Integrated Voice/IP Gateway
AltiGen's Integrated IP Telephony Option Saves Money, Provides Flexibility and Reduces Complexity for Small to Mid-Sized Businesses and Branch Offices
San Jose, Calif. - CTI Expo - December 1, 1998 - AltiGen
Communications, Inc., a leading provider of computer telephony (CT) solutions, today
announced the addition of an integrated Voice/IP Gateway option for its NT-based AltiServ
telephone system specifically designed to meet the rapidly changing needs of small
businesses and branch offices. The new AltiWare IP R2.1 software is designed to work with
AltiWare OE R2.1 and AltiGen's new Triton DSP (Digital Signal Processor) board to provide
robust IP Telephony integration with existing AltiServ features, all managed through a
single point of administration.
This new AltiGen solution integrates with the
Internet at many levels to allow telecommuters, remote workers and other offices to
function as if they were all on one corporate phone, voice mail and e-mail system. With
this announcement, AltiGen is once again leveraging industry standards to ensure open
solutions as AltiWare IP adheres to the multi-media communications standard (H.323) as
well as voice compression standards (G.711 available/G.723.1 pending). Additionally, the
system delivers excellent voice quality, simple and quick dialing, corporate-strength
voice mail, auto attendant, basic Automatic Call Distribution, Microsoft Exchange
integration, an e-mail server and robust Internet integration for multimedia traffic.
AltiGen's powerful phone system solution delivers the functionality that businesses demand
today. And, because this open standards-based, computerized PBX fully integrates voice and
data, it is the ideal platform for multi-media communications solutions in the rapidly
evolving world of merged voice/data networks.
"By adding the AltiWare IP option, businesses
can network their AltiServ systems, save money on long distance calls and realize the
AltiGen promise of an open platform that easily grows and evolves with changing business
and technology needs," said President and CEO of AltiGen, Gilbert Hu. "Companies
can buy a single platform solution that is an NT Server, robust multimedia PBX and VoIP
gateway. These new enhancements -- and the fact that they are fully integrated with a
single point of administration -- truly make AltiServ the ultimate phone system for the
Internet era."
"AltiGen's decision to add internal
integrated IP Gateway capability to their AltiServ system is right on the mark," said
Jeff Pulver, president of pulver.com, the leading Internet consultancy. "The ability
to tie their systems together via IP and also act as an intelligent edge-switch addresses
a clear need that is developing rapidly in the market."
Smart Choices for Small and Mid-Sized Businesses and Branch Offices
With AltiGen's integrated solution, businesses can
leverage IP technology to communicate easily and efficiently internally and between
offices at affordable prices. At the same time, they will benefit from a solution designed
from the ground up to address convergence of voice and data networks in phases so they can
implement new capabilities when they make sense, instead of being forced to change out
their entire system or add an expensive piece of adjunct equipment.
"We have been looking for a practical way to
eliminate long distance expenses between branch offices," said William Kirchner,
corporate director of data networking for Telecom Industries. "AltiGen's integrated
Voice/IP gateway fits our needs exactly since we are already using AltiServ systems in
these locations and will not require us to upgrade our existing routers. We expect a
savings of up to $3,000 per month by utilizing AltiGen's new integrated IP Telephony
option."
Affordable Voice/IP Option Integrated with the AltiServ All-In-One Solution
AltiGen's IP Telephony products support networking
of branch and remote offices via an integrated IP tie-line feature that allows users to
achieve long distance savings by connecting through their Intranet. AltiServ users can
dial out on virtual IP trunks or standard Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) trunks
based on the service options that best meet their needs. Not only is AltiGen's all-in-one
IP solution much more affordable than external IP Gateway products, but it also eliminates
cumbersome integration issues associated with the use of external gateways.
"AltiGen has created an IP Telephony product
that, like the company itself, is taking a unique approach to the market," said Paul
Stockford, director of Computer Telephony Research at Cahners In-Stat Group. "By
making their IP option an integral part of the AltiServ system, users not only get a
cost-effective IP gateway, they also benefit from having their IP capabilities tightly
integrated with other features and functions of AltiServ."
AltiGen's Latest Weapon: Triton DSP Boards
The foundation for AltiGen's integrated Voice/IP
Gateway offering is AltiGen's Triton DSP board. This full-size PCI board utilizes the
latest and most powerful DSP technology available and works with AltiGen's existing
Quantum board family to provide the most unique and robust combination of IP Telephony,
PBX switching and voice processing features available in a single telecom platform. Each
Triton DSP board provides up to four IP trunks.
